Overworked admin quits after months of late paychecks and being denied wedding time off, CFO demands she trains her replacement during her honeymoon, worried she won't receive final paycheck if she refuses: 'This was my last straw'

Well, that sure is one way to spend your honeymoon…if your ultimate goal is to win the rat race. But we know that this employee knows there's more to life than being mistreated by a company that doesn't see her value. They can barely pay a paycheck on time, let alone give her sufficient time off for her wedding day!! If she didn't hand in her two-week notice, we're almost certain they would've made her answer calls in between greeting her wedding guests. 'Hi Julie, thank you so much for the generous gift…ah wait, can you just give me a second, my dress pocket is vibrating again!' 

The issue here is that, despite giving notice, the company proceeded to call her during her honeymoon, asking whether she had trained the new hire! Like what?! She doesn't even work for them anymore, and they have the audacity to interrupt her during her honeymoon? She went above and beyond by making a pile of presentations for her replacement to read before she left, so it is no longer her responsibility to pick up the pieces of her old workplace…The thing is, she fears that if she doesn't comply, they'll never end up giving out the final paycheck she earned!

Leaving a job can be scary at first, but when a company has no regard for your hard work, time, or boundaries, there are only so many times one can see ‘this is the last time’… They're unreliable for 11months of the year, yet are conveniently fully hands-on the moment she's left for her honeymoon, AND QUIT!

  • Just_Asking21 You don't work there, tell them you will train if they pay you X amount (don't bother being cheap or nice for a company who doesn't care about you). Also they are required by law to give you your paycheck within a certain amount of time or depending on the state they will be penalized & possibly have to pay you more.

  • Beth21286 They should not even be contacting you, you don't work there anymore. If your check isn't ready on Friday tell them they pay you on the spot or you'll take it to a labour tribunal and claim for interest. Do not let them mess you around.

  • Accomplished_Gas473 I doubt there will be a confrontation. If they ask to talk, kindly decline and say you have other things to do that day and are just there to grab the check and leave. They legally can't hold it (at least in Texas). Plus most people aren't confrontational. If you are interested in training then ask for a training fee, half up front and half at project completion with a written contract of pay days and payment types. NTA, I wouldn't help at all honestly or take their calls. Yo

PrimeRisk Let me list the ways: * You do not work there anymore * You gave due notice to resign * You prepared training and left it behind to help them * and last, but not least, you do not work there anymore If you want to make some extra cash, then go ahead and offer to come into the office for a few days to train your replacement for 3x your former hourly rate. Then they can make a choice whether or not it is worth it to them. As for going in to get your last check, take no shit from any
